月日（つきひ）は百代（はくたい）の過客（くわかく）にして行（ゆ）きかふ年（とし）も又（また）旅人（たびびと）也（なり）。舟（ふね）の上に生涯（しやうがい）をうかべ、馬（うま）のとらえて老（お）いをむかふる物は日々旅にして旅を栖（すみか）とす。古人（こじん）も多く旅に死（し）せるあり。予（よ）も、いづれの年（とし）よりか片雲（へんうん）の風にさそはれて、漂白（へうはく）の思ひやまず、海濱（かいひん）にさすらへ、去年（こぞ）の秋、江上（かうしやう）の破屋（はをく）に蜘（くも）の古巣（ふるす）をはらひてやゝ年も暮（く）れ、春立（た）てる霞（かすみ）の空（そら）に白川（しらかは）の関（せき）越（こ）えんと、そゞろ神（がみ）の物につきて心を狂（くる）はせ、道祖神（だうそじん）の招（まね）きにあひて、取（と）るもの手につかず。もゝ引（ひき）の破（やぶ）れをつゞり、笠（かさ）の緒（を）付（つ）けかえて、三里（さんり）に灸（きう）据（す）ゆるより、松嶋（まつしま）の月先（ま）づ心にかゝりて、住（す）める方（かた）は人に譲（ゆづ）り、杉風（さんぷう）が別墅（べつしよ）に移（うつ）るに、

草（くさ）の戸（と）も住替（すみか）はる代（よ）ぞ雛（ひな）の家
面八句（おもてはちく）を庵（いほり）の柱（はしら）に懸（か）け置（お）く。

弥生（やよひ）も末（すゑ）の七日（なぬか）、明（あけ）ぼのゝ空朧々（ろうろう）として、月は在明（ありあ)けにて光（ひかり）おさまれるものから不二（ふじ）の峯（みね）幽（かす）かにみえて、上野（うへの）・谷中（やなか）の花の梢（こずゑ）又いつかはと心ぼそし。むつまじきかぎりは宵（よひ）より集（つど）ひて舟に乗（の）りて送（おく）る。千住（せんぢゆ）と云（い）ふ所にて舟をあがれば、前途（ぜんと）三千里のおもひ胸（むね）にふさがりて、幻（まぼろし）のちまたに離別（りべつ）の泪（なみだ）をそゝぐ。

行（ゆ）く春や鳥（とり）啼（な）き魚（うを）の目は泪

是（これ）を矢立（やた）ての初（はじ）めとして、行（ゆ）く道なほすゝまず。人々は途中（みちなか）に立ちならびて、後（うし）ろかげのみゆる迄（まで）はと見送るなるべし。
