Faculty of International Studies : Admission Policy

Admission Policy

Based on Meiji Gakuin University’s Policy regarding Admission of New Students, the Faculty of International Studies has established the following “Policy regarding Admission of New Students” in accordance with its “Policy regarding Graduation & Degree Conferment” and “Policy regarding Curriculum Formulation and Implementation”, reflecting the faculty’s Human Resource Development Aims and Educational Goals.

  1. Type of Personnel Sought
    1. Demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills, reasoning, judgment and expression abilities that are expected outcomes at the senior high school level and necessary to engage in Faculty of International Studies curricula.
    2. Understands and endorses the university’s educational philosophy of “Do for Others”, possesses an interest in the various issues arising in present-day society, and aspires to contribute to an inclusive society through independent learning in international studies.
    3. In particular, the Faculty of International Studies welcomes students with the following characteristics.
      1. Individuals with a strong spirit of inquiry and interest in people and society
      2. Individuals able to clearly express their thoughts and opinions
      3. Individuals with the ambition to contribute to society
      4. Individuals who wish to consider their future in a global society
      5. Individuals who find pleasure in thinking and working together with people from other countries
  2. Basic Policy for Selection of Students
    Assess whether an applicant possesses the fundamental abilities, ambition and characteristics outlined in “Applicant Criteria” above.
  3. Types of Student Selection and Evaluation Methods
    Student selection is based on general or special entrance examinations, evaluated according to the “Basic Policy for Selection of Students” above.

Department of International Studies

Admission Policy

  3. Assess whether an applicant possesses the fundamental abilities, ambition and characteristics outlined in “Applicant Criteria” above.
  4. Types of Student Selection and Evaluation Methods
  5. Student selection is based on general or special entrance examinations, evaluated according to the “Basic Policy for Selection of Students” above. Prospective students may take the All-Faculty Schedule, A Schedule or B Schedule general entrance examinations, or the Meiji Gakuin Admissions Center Entrance Examination.Special entrance examinations include the “AO Entrance Examination by Self-Nomination”, “Entrance Examination by Recommendation (Designated School)” and “Entrance Examination by Special Recommendation (Affiliated School)”.Evaluation methods vary by type of examination, including general written examinations, written tests focusing on fundamental English proficiency, short essays assessing expression ability, as well as interviews assessing intellectual curiosity and academic motivation. These examinations are used to select individuals who will study in the department and be active in society.

Department of Global and Transcultural Studies

Admission Policy

Based on the Faculty of International Studies Policy regarding Admission of New Students, the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies has established the following “Policy regarding Admission of New Students” in accordance with its “Policy regarding Graduation & Degree Conferment” and “Policy regarding Curriculum Formulation and Implementation”, reflecting the department’s Human Resource Development Aims and Educational Goals.

  1. Type of Personnel Sought
    1. Demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills, reasoning, judgment and expression abilities that are expected outcomes at the senior high school level and necessary to engage in the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies curriculum.
    2. Understands and endorses the university’s educational philosophy of “Do for Others”; possesses an interest in the various issues arising in present-day society; fully grasps the department’s educational objectives and aspires to contribute to an inclusive society by independently engaging in international studies and completing the offered curriculum.
    3. In particular, the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies welcomes students with the following characteristics.
      1. Ability to understand issues from diverse viewpoints
      2. Ability to contribute/participate in problem resolution
      3. Ability to collaborate with various people
      4. Satisfactory basic proficiency in English
