Christian Activities at Meiji Gakuin University

Meiji Gakuin University is founded on the principles of Christianity. Some influence from Christian values, though limited, can be seen in modern Japanese society. Nonetheless, by studying Christianity, we are able to gain a deeper understanding of the many world cultures and societies that are based in these values.

That being said, the University makes no attempts to force Christian values onto its students. Education at the University engages students in critical study of Christianity while fostering an open-minded perspective, and encourages them to seek out their own value systems to carry through their entire lives.

In addition to teaching the study of Christianity as an academic discipline, the Center for Christian Activities provides a variety of programs ranging from Bible discussions to study tours and work camps in Japan and abroad, as well as international exchanges. It is hoped that these activities will not only deepen students’ understanding of Christianity, but also provide them with a richer and more rewarding university experience.
