Major of Sociology

Original Site

Students of Sociology Major can accept opportunity to study and research a wide range of sociological subjects under the guidance of highly competent faculty who employ a unique guidance system.

How do we develop ties with others?
How do people become oppressed and forgotten?

The goal of the Sociology Major is to help students gain systematic knowledge and skills that enable them to arrive at solid answers to such questions based on actual phenomena that exist in our society today.

It is our belief that the main challenge of sociology is to uncover and investigate various issues that lurk beneath the surface of modern society and to develop more desirable visions of the future. Students strive to meet such challenges by gaining the specialized knowledge and skills they need in order to establish ties with others.

The Sociology Major participates in a credit-exchange program with other graduate schools which offer sociology programs. Students can receive credit for classes taken in any of the 26 graduate programs offered at 24 universities in Tokyo. We also have a special admission system for shakaijin (working professionals), as we believe their various professional experiences will be a plus for our education and research.
