This department of Political Science offers instruction in history, theory, structure and process of politics and administration, focusing on five areas of basic political science, local politics, Japanese politics, international politics, and information analysis. In addition to imparting specialized knowledge in political science and administration, the department provides students with training needed to understand the contemporary world and society from various points of view. Ultimately, the goal of the department is to educate talented entrepreneurs, journalists, civil servants, and politicians who possess a broad vision and problem- solving ability.

The department's curriculum and various approaches to instruction reflect the faculty's concern for making politics and administration into a truly scientific discipline and producing leaders with breadth of knowledge and critical judgment. First year student are required to take two compulsory courses : Elements of Political Studies and First Year Seminar that introduces students to the field of political science. With this foundation, students are able to choose from a variety of courses that relate to their particular interests and future career plans ( including forces in the related fields of law economics ).

Another feature of the curriculum is the emphasis placed on seminars and close interaction between faculty and students. There are also a number of field work courses through which students are able to observations make a significant difference when students write their various papers and reports. The department also offers team-taught courses in which several Japanese and foreign instructors give lectures on a specific theme or topic. In addition to these regular courses, the department organizes numerous other events such as an orientation camp for freshmen, political debates between students and faculty, and various symposia.
