Position Opening: Instructor of English

The Faculty of International Studies, Meiji Gakuin University invites application for one full-time position in the Faculty’s English language education program.

Terms of Employment and Rank
The position is full-time, non-tenure-track position for a term of four years with the possibility of a single renewal for an additional four years based on a review process during the fourth year. The successful applicant should be able to start working from April 1, 2015. Depending on the experience and qualifications, the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Professor.

Employment Details
The Faculty consists of two departments: Department of International Studies and the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies. The appointment will be in the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies although the appointee will be asked to teach courses in both departments. The primary duty of this position will be teaching English courses, supporting the part-time English instructors, mentoring classroom assistants and tutors, and performing administrative duties involved in the operation of the English programs. Hence the appointee will teach first through fourth year students, and be available on all days when English classes are scheduled with the exception of two half-day research days that can be spent away from the campus. Additional duties including committee work may be assigned after consultation. Working place is Yokohama Campus (Occasionally, trips to Shirokane Campus are requested.)

Qualifications
1.Master of Arts degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics (Ph.D. Preferred).
2.Native competence in English. Japanese language ability to carry out administrative duties including ability to read and respond to written communication is required.
3.Experience teaching academic English (courses in reading, research writing, composition and rhetoric) to Japanese university students and students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Japanese returnee students.
4.Experience supporting the administration of an Academic English program in a university.

3.Two publications in journals related to language teaching such as JALT or JACET which demonstrate substantial knowledge and interest in language teaching and learning.
