September 2003, Adoption of "Support Program for Distinctive College Education" (Distinctive GP)
Entry theme: 5, Program Name: "Implementation and Practice for Participation Experience in Society in College Education - Volunteer Center's Approaches for Education Support"
In Meiji Gakuin University, we share an idea that participation experience in society is very important in college education across all departments. This implementation is a collective educational approach in which students adopt an attitude of independent ideas and actions based on their own experience through volunteer activities. Many departments have already set up classes where students directly or indirectly experience volunteer activities. The Volunteer Center introduces volunteer activities to students, supports extracurricular activities, nurtures students and staff, and organizes public seminars about volunteer activities to support the departments by utilizing our experiences and resources. As a result, many students are now participating in volunteer activities and understanding their importance, and our mission, "students are able to practice planning and running activities to participate in society by themselves," has been achieved. While achievement of individual activities varies, receiving funds for student volunteers is considered proof that our mission is positively evaluated in society.
