Education Projects

Our education projects has adopted for “Support Program of Modern Educational Needs for 2005,” launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in August 2005.

This is one of the program deployed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to support and facilitate reformation of education programs in both public and private universities. The Ministry aims to do so by adopting and funding outstanding projects applied by various universities and colleges. Those adopted projects are then recognized as “GP,” which stands for Good Practice. The Ministry expects each university to tackle with educational reform based on the clear planning along with understanding the purpose of the program. Here’s the overview of our education project listed below.

Field of application: Contribution to the locally-based revitalization of communities

Project title: Revitalization of Local Communities in Metropolitan Areas: Educational Support for Achieving Inclusive Society and Employment of Individuals with Disabilities.

Credits for: Meiji Gakuin University, Department of Sociology

Project overview: To revitalize local communities in metropolitan areas, we think it is necessary to enrich communication and participation among local residents and, the university is expected to contribute to the society as a member of the local community. The purpose of this project is to facilitate communication among local residents regardless of disabilities and local-based groups and/or institutions by promoting employment of individuals with disabilities on campus. In the meanwhile, this project is associated with the curriculum, it will provide students opportunities to learn about the lives of people with disabilities and acquire understanding to support employment of such people.
Today we see more companies employ people with disabilities with the support of job coaches than before, and the project will offer learning opportunities to students so that they will be expected to play a key role in promoting and supporting employment of people with disabilities in their career. This project will be implemented with the social support network of groups and organizations in local communities.

Besides the project mentioned above, Meiji Gakuin University has two other education projects adopted as GP by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports and Technology: in 2003, our project “Implementation and Practice for Participation Experience in Society in College Education: Volunteers Center’s Approaches for Educational Support” has been adopted as “Support Program for Distinctive College Education.” In 2004, the project “Practical Education Using Remote Classes System and IT: Reinforcement of Clinical Practice and Practical Classes” was adopted to “Special Graduate Schools(such as Law Schools) Program,” along with Collaborative Educational Project, in which this project is titled as “Clinical Law Education Using Public Law Offices.”
