The 2009
ASCJ annual conference will be held June 20-21 at Sophia University,
Tokyo.
ASCJ Overview
ASCJ was
founded in 1996. It is a Japan-based regional branch of the Association
for Asian Studies (AAS), the world’s largest scholarly
society on Asian topics. ASCJ holds an annual two-day conference in
Tokyo on a weekend in late June.
Presentations are multi-disciplinary
and multi-area, and given in English.
The conference is
organized through
the volunteer efforts of the Executive Committee members, who are
full-time faculty at the following universities in Tokyo: International
Christian University, Meiji Gakuin University, Hitotsubashi University,
Hosei University, Rikkyo University, Sophia University, Toyo Eiwa
University, and Waseda University. The venue now rotated between these
universities. The administration and website are presently housed at
Meiji Gakuin.
Information on conference
attendance
- Attendance averages 250-450 persons.
- Most attendees hold university faculty positions or are graduate students.
- Half
of the approximately 200 presentations are Japan-related while others
are on China, Korea, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Pacific
region, and diasporic and transnational processes.
- Attendees represent the traditional humanities and social science disciplines, as well as cultural studies.
- About
half the attendees are based in Japanese institutions, a quarter in
North American institutions, and a quarter in other Asian and European
institutions.
Book Exhibition
Book exhibitors receive the following services at ASCJ:
- Storage for books shipped in advance to conference site.

- Setting up and taking down the display (for book displayers
without a representative in attendance)

Fees for book exhibitors
Book exhibitors are charged modest fees to help defray the
administrative costs of the conference. The fees vary depending on
whether the book exhibition is accompanied or unaccompanied.
Accompanied books.
Exhibitors are asked to take out a full-page advertisement in our
conference program at a cost of 20,000 yen. Exhibitors will have use of
tables as necessary and can conduct book sales on the site. Books can
be
shipped in advance or brought on the conference day.
Unaccompanied books.
Exhibitors
are asked to take out at least a half-page advertisement for 10,000
yen. Books, publicity materials and order forms may be shipped to the
address below, to arrive between June 12 and June 19.
A display
will be
set up by conference staff. Books are not returned after the conference
but are considered donated to ASCJ. We cannot sell books or take orders
for unaccompanied displays.

Details of
the advertisement
The standard size for a full-page advertisement in the conference
program is B5 (182 mm by 257 mm) in black-and-white format. A half-page
advertisement is 182mm by 128mm. Please send a copy of the
advertisement to us no later than Friday, June 5, 2009. The ad should be sent
by email attachment (preferably in Word or PDF format) to ascj20xx@gmail.com.
Inserts in Conference
Program
One-page inserts (chirashi)
can be inserted into the programs that
are
given to all attendees. The fee is 10,000 yen per one page
leaflet. Flyers can be up to A4 (210 mm by 297 mm) size. For

All leaflets (chirashi) to be inserted in the printed program
should be sent by post or by takuhaibin delivery to reach the 2009
Conference Site by Friday, June 12.

Brochure Displays
Foundations, universities, and other non-profit
organizations
can display brochures describing their activities for free. Brochures
will be placed on a common table. Brochures can either be mailed in
advance or brought by you to the conference site on the first day of
the conference, June
20. Please

日本アジア研究学会とは．．．
日本アジア研究学会（ASCJ: Asian Studies Conference
Japan）」は世界最大の学会員数をもつアジア学会（Association for Asian
Studies:ＡＡＳ：米国本部）のアジア地域初の地域部会として、１９９７年に発足しました。毎年６月の研究大会を主な活動としており、今年で１3回
目を迎えます。ＡＳＣＪは、多くのアジア研究者が交差する日本において、日本、アジア、その他の国々のアジア研究者の学際的交流をはかり、高度の学術的情
報を共有することによりアジア研究推進に寄与するとともに、英語による研究発表の機会を日本内外在住の専門研究者、特に若手研究者に提供することを目的と
しています。ＡＳＣＪは学会参加費を財源とし、年次総会で選出された運営委員により運営されています(http://www.meijigakuin.ac.jp/~ascj/)。
大会には毎年、日本や欧米、アジア各国から２５０人から３００人が参加します。参加者のほとんどが、日本ないしは海外の学術機関に属する研究者や大学
院生であり、全部で１２０程度の報告のうち約半数が日本に関係するテーマとなっています。そのほかに、韓国、中国、南アジア、東南アジア、中央アジア、太
平洋地域、ディアスポラやトランスナショナルな環境をテーマにしています。分野は歴史や文学といった人文科学から社会科学、カルチュラル・スタディーズや
国際関係論も含む幅広いもので、とくに限定はしていません。参加者の５０％は日本の学術研究機関等に所属し、あとは北米が２５％、そのほか、ヨーロッパや
アジア諸国が占めています。
今年２００９年の研究大会は、２００９年 ６月２１日 （土）、２０日（日）の二日間、立教大学の池袋 キャンパスで行われます。
書籍展示および即売について
「日本アジア研究学会（ＡＳＣＪ）」は年次大会会場での書籍展示即売とカタログやチラシ等の配布を歓迎します。
ＡＳＣＪは次のようなサービスを提供します
・ 学会会場に前もって郵送された書籍の保管
・ 参加者に配布する学会プログラム封筒へのカタログやチラシの挿入
・ 期間中に担当の方が常在しない場合の書籍の展示と後片づけ
書籍展示の費用
費用は展示担当の常在の方がいる場合と以内場合とで異なります。
＊ 展示担当者が参加する場合は２０、０００円をお支払いください。担当者は必要数のテーブルを使用し、書籍の販売もできます。書籍は事前に下記の住所に郵送 して下さい。この値段は学会プログラム掲載用の１頁の広告費用込みです。

提示担当者が参加しない場合、１００００円をお支払いください。この値段は学会プログラム掲載用の半ページの広告費用込みです。書籍を６月１２日〜１９日
の間、
下記の住所に郵送してください。事前に郵送された書籍は、当方の展示順位基準に従って、当方のスタッフが展示します。なお、学会終了後、展示した書籍は返
却いたしません。そのままＡＳＣＪにご寄贈されたという扱いになります。ご了承をお願いします。即売はできませんが、持ち帰り用の注文用紙を展示するのは
可能です。
