In March 1998 Professor Paul Drew form University of York and Professor John Heritage from UCLA visited Saitama, Tokyo and Kyoto to hold a workshop and lectures on Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis. In their three-day workshop held at Saitama-ken Kenmin Katsudo Center they presented some basic ideas of Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis and demonstrated the application of Conversation Analytic techniques to concrete empirical data from various settings, from ordinary conversation to institutional settings. In lectures they presented their most recent papers on various conversational practices, such as some aspects of Oh-prefacing practices, some uses of fugurative expressions in conversation and so on.
