Dr. Rayna Rapp has been attempting to develop a social study of medicine, science and technology from the perspective of feminist anthropology. Her publications include Testing Women, Testing the Fetus (2000, Routledge), in which she, focusing on amniocentesis, successfully explicates the complicated relationship among genetic technologies, experiences with and attitudes towards technologies, cultural identities, class, gender etc., based on ethnographic work in genetic laboratories and with people involved with amniocentesis at a variety of levels.
