Totsuka Station straddles the Kashio River, shown here. Totsuka was an important post station on the old Tokaido road from Kyoto to Edo. Now the JR Tokaido Line brings hundreds of thousands of commuters from Totsuka to Tokyo in 35 minutes. JR lines: Tokaido and Yokosuka. Subway: Yokohama subway.
Totsuka is a "ku" or ward of Yokohama city. The characters of the areas to the east and west of the station are quite different. This is the entrance to pedestrian shopping area to the west: Asahi-cho Shotengai. It's not all fast food, though...
West Totsuka is worth exploring for the "shitamachi" atmosphere in its maze of little back streets.
Our campus is on the top of a hill in a quiet residential area. In autumn and winter especially, there are good views of Mt Fuji to the west, here photographed at sunset. The apartments which accommodate ISP students are in easy walking distance from the campus.
