The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies welcomes applications from the following kind of students.
- Students who apply to the department should have a good understanding of its educational aims. The department trains students to have a general comprehension of politics, economics, and culture related to issues in global society. Students learn to communicate in foreign languages, to work together with others in a variety of situations, and to develop leadership skills;
- Students should have the basic academic skills and motivation to benefit from the curriculum offered by the department;
- Students should be adaptable and motivated with a desire to take an active part in the international arena in the future.

| Requirements for Application |
To apply to the department, you should have met all of the following requirements:
- You should be 18 years of age or older by April 1st, 2012. You should have already graduated from high school or expect to graduate by March, 2012. This requirement can be met in one of three ways:
- (1) You have graduated from high school.
- (2) You are considered to have completed twelve years of a regular school curriculum.
- (3) You are considered to have attained an educational ability equal or superior to high-school graduates.
- This department should be your first choice for further education. You are able to make a definite commitment to enter the department.
- You can demonstrate a satisfactory ability in English by one of the following:
- a. You have received a TOEFL-iBT score of 70 points or higher (TOEFL-PBT score of 525 points or higher).
- b. You have received an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher (Academic Module only).
- c. You have received a TOEIC score of 700 points or higher.
- d. You are a native speaker of English.

| Application Documents |
- Application form.
You must complete the form designated by the university.
- Documentation required as proof of high school education.
NOTE: Only official documents issued by your school or other educational authorities can be accepted. The documents should be originals in a sealed, unopened envelope. Photocopies are not acceptable. Documents must be issued within three months before the application date. As evidence of 1.(1) to (3) above, submit a transcript of grades (educational certification) and a certificate of completion of studies (certificate of anticipated completion of studies).
- If possible, submit evidence of the following as educational certification:
- (1) SAT Reasoning Test (SAT
), SAT Subject Tests (SAT )
- (2) Advanced level GCE or GCSC
- (3) Baccalauréat
- (4) IB Full Diploma
- (5) Abitur
- (6) Another form of educational certification equivalent to those listed above.
NOTE: These certificates must be originals or certified true copies made by your school or embassy, or by a public notary in Japan.
- Personal Statement.
The personal statement should be written in English. There are no restrictions as to format or length. It should be sent together with this application. Possible subjects for your personal statement include the following:
・Why I want to study at Meiji Gakuin University.
・Why I want to live in Japan.
・What kind of academic subjects interest me.
・My future plans after graduation.
- Two Letters of Recommendation.
One letter should be written by a teacher at your high school. The second letter of recommendation can be written by any person chosen by you. (The letters can be written in English or Japanese. Letters in other languages should be accompanied by a translation into English or Japanese.)
- English test results: Proof of ability in English

a. Submit the “Examinee Score Record” for TOEFL-iBT or TOEFL-PBT.
b. Submit the “Test Report Form” for IELTS.
c. Submit the “Official Score Certificate” for TOEIC.
NOTE: Only originals, not photocopies, are accepted in the case of IELTS “Test Report Form” and the TOEIC “Official Score Certificates. A photocopy is acceptable in the case of the “Examinee Score Record” for TOEFL-iBT or TOEFL-PBT.
d. Those who are native speakers of English should submit documentation for one of the educational certifications listed above, “Application Documents” (1) to (6).

| Selection Process |
Applicants will be chosen on the basis of documents submitted. There is no written examination or interview. |

- The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies should be your first choice. You are able to make a definite commitment to enter the department.

- (b.) You have received a TOEIC score of 600 points or higher.
- (c.) You have received a “GTEC for STUDENTS” score of 650 points or higher.
- (d.) You have received a TOEFL-iBT score of 54 points or higher (TOEFL-PBT score of 480 points or higher).
- (e.) You were enrolled for four years or more without interruption in a middle school (junior high school) or high school where English was the medium of education.
NOTE: Applicants for the AO (B) examination must be able to take the examination in Tokyo on 20 November, 2011. The application procedures must be completed in Japan, either by applicants themselves, or by a someone acting for them. However, there is no requirement that examinees should be resident in Japan at the time of application. There is no restriction as to national origin or citizenship of those applying.

[1] Written Examination (2 hours). The examination consists of three sections.
- Read a passage in English. The passage is between 600-1000 words in length. Write a summary in English or Japanese of the main points in the passage. Your summary should be between 100 and 200 words in length. If writing in Japanese, your summary should be between 200 and 400 characters in length.
- Respond to the issues in the passage in section (1) by giving your opinion in English. Your response should be between 300 and 500 words in length.
- Select one essay topic from the three choices. Discuss the topic in English . Use the space provided for your answer.
[2] Interview in English only.
