Message from the Dean to all New GTS Students
The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in March was an unprecedented tragedy for Japan. At present a range of relief operations have begun in every region, and survivors, aid workers and volunteers are continuously coordinating their efforts to rebuild. The faculty and staff of the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies extend heart-felt support to people affected by theses events.
In order to finalize preparations for the new academic year following the disruptions caused by the disaster, Meiji Gakuin University will begin classes on Friday, May 6th.
New students to the GTS Department will surely be wondering about the impact of this sudden change in scheduling on their academic careers. We are giving our utmost attention to revising plans that will allow us to make the best of this one-month delay. As a first step we will enact the following program:
On Friday, April 15, students will pick up their new IDs. This will be followed by the GTS Workshop on Tuesday April 26th, and the Guidance session on Wednesday April 27th. In addition to the regularly scheduled events, the Associate Dean and other faculty members will set up consultation sessions for students. This will give you an opportunity to pose questions to individual faculty members, and receive advice on courses and other matters that might concern you.
This is trying period for all, but the GTS Department is determined to extend its fullest support to each of you as you prepare to enter Meiji Gakuin. Please check this site on a regular basis for further updates to the orientation planning, and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
