Open Campus: Guidance and Demonstration Lectures

The following information is for students who are thinking of applying to the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies (GTS). The university will hold three “Open Campus” events in July and August. On each of the dates, a GTS professor will give a 45-minute introduction to the department in Japanese. The same professor will also give a 45-minute demonstration lecture in Japanese. Here are the dates and titles of the lectures. For the times and room numbers, please watch this space! ◆July 17 (Sunday) – Shirokane campus
Professor Michael Watson will introduce the GTS department. His lecture will be on “The globalization of Japanese culture and Japanese literature.”
Japanese title:「海を渡った日本文化・日本文学」
Michael Watson is the Associate Dean of the GTS department. His areas of specialization are Japanese literature and comparative literature.

◆August 6 (Saturday) – Yokohama campus
Professor Tom Gill will introduce the GTS department. His lecture will be on“Japan: Homogeneous nation or multiethnic state?”
Japanese title: 「日本:単一民族、それとも多民族国家?」
Tom Gill’s areas of specialization are social anthropology and Japanese studies.

◆August 27 (Saturday) – Shirokane campus
Professor Nozomu Abe will introduce the GTS department.
Nozomu Abe is the Dean of the Faculty of International Studies. His areas of specialization are the European economy and economic policy studies.
Peofessor AIBA Keiko will give a demonstration lecture on “Women in the Islamic countries”
Japanese title: 「イスラム諸国における女性」
Her areas of specialization are "Gender Studies" and "Gender and Body".
