Faculty introduction

In the Faculty of Psychology, we take “research the mind and support the person” as the common educational principle for our two departments, the Department of Psychology and the Department of Education and Child Development. The Department of Psychology is still a rarity in all of Japan as a Department of Psychology housed in a Faculty of Psychology with a large complement of 15 faculty members so that you can carry out a wide-ranging study of psychology here. The Department of Education and Child Development is also unusual as a department that is housed in a Faculty of Psychology and that is oriented mainly toward training teachers. A major distinguishing feature of this department is that it positions psychology as one of the foundations of the education it offers. Society today faces a variety of different problems, including stress, suicide, abuse, and bullying, and need for the field of psychology is growing ever greater. It is our hope that you will work hard at your studies in this Faculty and go on to take active parts in society.
