The Meiji Gakuin Olympic-Paralympic Project Executive Committee was the winner at "The 2nd Tokyo 2020 School Festival"!

On Olympic Day--Saturday, June 23--"The 2nd Tokyo 2020 School Festival" was held in Aoyama Gakuin Memorial Hall. Commemorating the starting date of the partnership between the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and universities and junior colleges around Japan, this was the second edition of the event following its launch last year.
This year's event was a quiz and sports battle aiming to crown a "Partner University King" through quiz and sports competitions revolving around the Olympic-Paralympic Games and the Tokyo 2020 Games. The event's themes were fundamental principles of Olympism: "exalting the qualities of body, will and mind" and "blending sports with culture and education
Participating as Meiji Gakuin Olympic-Paralympic Project Executive Committee volunteer management staff, about 30 members provided management support for the sports competition and quiz tournament starting from the preparation stage. Working in cooperation with members of the student organization Origami and volunteers from Aoyama Gakuin University, each individual worked hard to carry out their assigned role and help the event proceed smoothly.
In addition to serving as volunteer management staff, they also participated in the quiz-sports battle as the "MG OlyPara" team. Along with a quiz calling for detailed knowledge about the Olympics, they competed against a total of 20 universities (24 teams) in sport climbing and 3x3 basketball, two sports that are set to become new Olympic events.
The final round was an on-stage push-the-buzzer quiz contest. Competing in this round were the top 5 teams--including "MG OlyPara," which had completed the preliminary round in 2nd place. It was a close contest, but at the final question, "MG OlyPara" came from behind to win. All the members were thrilled with their greater-than-expected showing.
This event was a valuable experience for the Meiji Gakuin Olympic-Paralympic Project Executive Committee in its roles as both management staff members and participants. The Meiji Gakuin Olympic-Paralympic Project Executive Committee will continue its partnership with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, and draw on its experience at this event to create even more excitement around the Olympic-Paralympic Games in cooperation with many people.
