At lunchtime on Thursday, April 18, in the Yokohama Chapel and Shirokane Chapel, an Easter service and Gideon Bible presentation ceremony were held to welcome new students.
Easter is a very important day on the Christian calendar—the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion.
On the Shirokane and Yokohama Campuses, an Easter service is held at this time every year.
A large number of students came to the Chapel on the Yokohama Campus, which that day enjoyed early-summer-like temperatures. Since many of the new students attended the entrance ceremony at the Shirokane Campus Chapel, some said this was the first time they had ever been inside the Yokohama Chapel.
In the Chapel they listened to the timbres of the pipe organ, sang hymns, and silently offered prayers.
At this year’s Easter service, just as at last year’s, copies of the New Testament were distributed at no cost, courtesy of the Gideons International in Japan. Gideon Bibles were handed out to all students who requested one.
We hope the words of the Bible will be a source of support in their lives as university students.
