Guidelines for Overseas Travel and Sending or Receiving Study-abroad Students

To students enrolled at Meiji Gakuin University and their guardians,
To foreign students currently studying or planning to study at Meiji Gakuin University and their guardians,

At a meeting of the University Executive Committee and the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Countermeasures Headquarters held on Monday, March 16, we enacted the University Guidelines Corresponding to MOFA Travel Safety Levels (“University Guidelines,” below) for University students and faculty. Placing the highest priority on the health and safety of everyone involved, we request that students traveling abroad and incoming international students adhere to these guidelines as follows.

1.Enrolled students traveling abroad
Enrolled students should adhere to the University Guidelines.

2.Study abroad
(1)Enrolled students and study-abroad students from overseas
①Enrolled students currently studying abroad
Please adhere to government decrees at your travel destination and the University Guidelines. Return to Japan is left to your discretion, but regardless of which country or region you are returning from, please self-quarantine at home for two weeks after your return.

②Enrolled students planning to study abroad
We strongly urge you to delay study abroad plans. Note that the University Guidelines generally forbid travel to areas with a travel safety level of 2, and forbid travel to areas with a level of 3 or higher.

(2)International students currently studying in Japan
Whether to remain in Japan or return to your country is left to your discretion. If circumstances require you to leave and then return to Japan, please self-quarantine at home for two weeks after your return.

(3)International students planning for study abroad at our University
We have halted acceptance of all exchange students for the 2020 Spring semester. As part of this, the following International Center dispatch programs are also cancelled:
• 2020 Summer Semester Short-term Study Abroad Program
• 2020 Summer Semester SDGs Field Studies

These were painful decisions that we know will preclude valuable opportunities for international exchange in your university life. We highly regret having to make these decisions, but appreciate your continued support and understanding regarding the current situation.
