To: All students due to enter Meiji Gakuin University in April 2020, current Meiji Gakuin students, their families, and all others concerned:

In view of the growing threat of infection posed by the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19, Meiji Gakuin has decided to make the following alterations to the start of the spring 2020 semester for undergraduate and graduate students, paying due regard to the overriding importance of safeguarding the health and safety of everyone connected with the university.

■Undergraduate classes

Classes have already been postponed two weeks, from April 6 to April 20. The university has now decided that classes will start as previously advertised, on Monday April 20, 2020. However, to prevent the risk of infection, all classes will be held online. The university has set a provisional date of Thursday May 7 to resume on-campus teaching. This date is subject to change depending on how the Coronavirus epidemic develops, so please pay careful attention to further announcements from the university.

■Graduate classes

The start of graduate classes is hereby postponed from April 6 to April 20.

Meiji Gakuin University previously announced a provisional date of Thursday, May 7, 2020 for switching from online classes back to on-campus classroom teaching. However, the subsequent continued spread of the novel Coronavirus leaves us with no choice but to extend the period of online classes beyond May 7 until futher notice. If and when we decide to switch back to classroom teaching, we will give students two weeks’advance notice.

We humbly request your understanding for these measures taken by the university in response to the current situation, and your continued goodwill and support in these difficult times.
