With the goal of returning to pre-pandemic class formats as quickly as possible, Meiji Gakuin University has been making efforts to incrementally increase the number of classes taught face-to-face. As stated in my memo dated December 14, 2021, titled “Classes in the 2022 academic year,” we have been preparing to in principle conduct all classes in a face-to-face format from spring semester 2022. Since the end of last year, however, the new Omicron strain of COVID-19 has been spreading worldwide, making the infection situation completely unpredictable.
Considering the current extent of COVID-19 infections (numbers of new patients, reduced availability of medical facilities, spread of infection to younger people, etc.), we have decided to start spring semester 2022 teaching classes in a combination of face-to-face and remote formats. Even so, our core philosophy that face-to-face classes are the basis of education remains unchanged. On the assumption that the pandemic will subside in the future, we are also preparing to switch some classes back to a face-to-face format later in the semester.
We remain completely unsure as to how the COVID-19 pandemic will develop, so we may have to further adjust the above policies, according to the infection situation and government requests. In such an event, we will promptly notify you via the University website, etc., so please watch for further announcements.
