Congratulations to MGU Millennium Fellows!

10 students from the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies, Faculty of International Studies, have been selected for the Millennium Fellowship 2024, a leadership development program jointly offered by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and Millennium Campus Network (MCN).
Out of more than 52,000 applicants in 2024, from over 6,000 campuses across 170 countries, only 5% were selected. We are proud to share that MGU is one of 280 campuses globally, and the only university in Japan to host a cohort of Millennium Fellows in 2024. Our students will embark on this new challenge joining a global network of 4,000+ students from 48 countries to contribute in their own unique and innovative way towards advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
As a part of their Millennium Fellowship, our students will design and execute multiple social impact projects during the fall semester of 2024. They will regularly convene on campus and receive virtual mentoring from experts at the UNAI and MCN.

Below are the projects initiated by MGU students:

  • Bottles to Shelters: collecting discarded PET bottles on campus and upcycling them into sheets for refugee shelters abroad
  • Green Cycle MGU: reducing waste on campus by promoting better resource circulation, introducing reusable cups, raising awareness about campus waste management
  • Re-loved Market: creating a platform to support small businesses run by students, promoting a sustainable lifestyle and more student exchanges through the same
  • Sound Advice: raising awareness and promoting early detection of hearing loss through educational content
  • MGU Food Bank: partnering with the school cafeteria to reduce food waste on campus

*What is the Millennium Fellowship?
The Millennium Fellowship is a global leadership development program that aims to empower student leaders to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each year, students from campuses around the world are selected to develop and implement social impact projects that address critical issues related to the SDGs.
