Admission Policy

Based on Meiji Gakuin University’s Policy regarding Admission of New Students, the Faculty of Sociology & Social Work has established the following “Policy regarding Admission of New Students” in accordance with its “Policy regarding Graduation & Degree Conferment” and “Policy regarding Curriculum Formulation and Implementation”, reflecting the faculty’s Human Resource Development Aims and Educational Goals.

  1. Type of Personnel Sought
    1. Demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills, reasoning, judgment and expression abilities that are expected outcomes at the senior high school level and necessary for study at the Faculty of Sociology & Social Work.
    2. Possesses an interest in the university’s educational philosophy of “Do for Others”, as well as the faculty’s educational policies and goals, and aspires to contribute to an inclusive society through independent study in sociology and social work.
    3. In particular, the Faculty of Sociology & Social Work expects prospective students to possess the following characteristics.
      1. Individuals wishing to examine matters occurring locally, regionally and globally from diverse angles
      2. Individuals wishing to study materials according to set themes, conduct further investigation and practical work (exercises), and summarize ideas based on the data obtained
      3. Individuals able to convey their summarized ideas to others through appropriate verbal and written expression
      4.  Individuals who possess the ambition to begin their university life by improving on the fundamental abilities attained at a senior high school level (reading, writing, communication), by submitting reports for editing and instruction as part of their pre-university education.
      5. The faculty also believes that having students with diverse experience study together is important for meeting people and understanding society; as such, the faculty also accepts individuals who excel in their art as well as members of society who possess extensive field experience and international students, not just graduates of high schools and colleges, etc. Basic Policy for Selection of Students Assess whether an applicant possesses the fundamental abilities, ambition and characteristics outlined in “Applicant Criteria” above.

    Student selection is based on general or special entrance examinations, evaluated according to the “Basic Policy for Selection of Students’ above.

Department of Sociology

Admission Policy

Based on the Faculty of Sociology & Social Work Policy regarding Admission of New Students, the Department of Sociology has established the following “Policy regarding Admission of New Students” in accordance with its “Policy regarding Graduation & Degree Conferment” and “Policy regarding Curriculum Formulation and Implementation”, reflecting the department’s Human Resource Development Aims and Educational Goals.

The department’s educational objectives begin with cultivating an interest in “others”, whether they be acquaintances or strangers. First, it is necessary to recognize the diverse conflicts associated with the issue of “others”. Next, individuals must be prepared to accept as a personal challenge the journey from intuitive realization to deep understanding. Finally, we hope that students acquire the ability to express the matters they uncovered and pursued, in their own words and to specific others. This department seeks students who wish to acquire such abilities through university life before going out into the world.

  3. Assess whether an applicant possesses the fundamental abilities, ambition and qualities outlined in “Applicant Criteria” above.
  4. Types of Student Selection and Evaluation Methods
  5. Prospective students may take the All-Faculty Schedule, A Schedule or B Schedule general entrance examinations, or the Meiji Gakuin Admissions Center Entrance Examination. Special entrance examinations include the “AO Entrance Examination by Self-Nomination”, “Entrance Examination by Recommendation (Designated School)” and “Entrance Examination by Special Recommendation (Affiliated School)”. Evaluation methods vary by type of examination, including general written examinations, short essays focusing on expression ability, and interviews assessing qualities and ambitions. These examinations are used to select individuals who will study in the department and be active in society.

Department of Social Work

  1. Type of Personnel Sought
    1. Demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills, reasoning, judgment and expression abilities that are expected outcomes at the senior high school level and necessary for study at the Department of Social Work.
    2. Possesses an interest in the university’s educational philosophy of “Do for Others”, as well as the various issues arising in present-day society, and aspires to contribute to an inclusive society through independent study of the theory and practice of social work.
    3. The Department of Sociology seeks students with some of the following qualities.
      ・The ability to make multifaceted, logical observations
      ・A deep interest in diverse social issues, the ability to think outside of the box to find solutions to those issues and a driving ambition to contribute
      ・A readiness to interact with others and achieve a deeper learning through practical application
