Admission Policy

Based on the Meiji Gakuin University Graduate School’s Policy regarding Admission of New Students, the Major of International Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies has established the following “Policy regarding Admission of New Students” in accordance with its “Policy regarding Course Completion & Degree Conferment” and “Policy regarding Curriculum Formulation and Implementation”, reflecting the major’s Human Resource Development Aims and Educational Goals.

Master’s and Doctoral Programs
  1. Applicant Criteria
      Master’s and Doctoral Programs
    1. Demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills, reasoning, judgment and expression abilities in humanities and social sciences fields acquired at the undergraduate level (or master’s level for doctoral programs) and required to engage in high-level research in international studies.
    2. Demonstrates linguistic ability that facilitates study with an international perspective.
    3. Understands and endorses the university’s educational philosophy of “Do for Others”, possesses a strong interest and spirit of inquiry concerning various issues arising in present-day society, as well as the ambition and potential to utilize advanced research in international studies at the Graduate School to contribute to society, as an educational researcher of societies and people in a globaliz

    Assess whether applicants possess the fundamental abilities, linguistic ability, ambition and qualities outlined in “Applicant Criteria” above.
  3. Types of Student Selection and Evaluation Methods
      Master’s Program
    1. Student selection is based on written examinations and interviews, or interviews only, evaluated according to the “Basic Policy for Selection of Students”.
    2. Written examinations focus on assessing the fundamental academic abilities acquired at the undergraduate level in the fields of either humanities or social studies, as well as the linguistic ability to facilitate study with an international perspective. Interviews focus on confirming practical work in society, graduation theses and records of research activities to date, as a means of assessing whether research goals are compatible with this major and applicants possess the ambition and potential to contribute to society as an educational researcher or specialized professional.
      Doctoral Program
    1. Student selection is based on written examinations and interviews, evaluated according to the “Basic Policy for Selection of Students”.
    2. Written examinations focus on assessing the fundamental academic abilities acquired at the master’s level in the fields of humanities or social studies, as well as the linguistic ability to facilitate study with an international perspective.
      Interviews focus on confirming academic abilities based on master’s theses and applicant records, as well as assessing whether research goals are compatible with this major and individuals possess the ambition and potential to contribute to society as an educational researcher or high-level specialized professional.
