Public Advertisement for a Faculty Position Opening(Introduction to International Relations)

1. Position Information

  Four years (with no option for renewal).

 Duties and Teaching Responsibilities:
   The successful candidate will be asked to teach “Introduction to International Relations” in English.

  This is a Lower Division class. The selected candidate will also teach an Upper Division course that is based
  on their field of specialization. (In your personal statement [Item (4)] please include an explanation of the
  Upper Division course that you would offer.) In addition, the candidate will be asked to teach a few other
  lecture courses and seminars offered by the department. 
   The department’s curriculum is conducted entirely in English. It seeks a candidate who has the teaching skills
  and dedication to effectively instruct students in small class settings, including students whose secondary
  education did not center on an English curriculum. In addition, the Department is looking for a scholar
  who can teach theories of international relations to students while also providing them with a wealth of knowledge
  on various topics related to international relations.

 Qualifications
  The candidate must have a Ph.D. or have attained an equivalent level of knowledge and research experience.
  The position is open to any applicant regardless of their nationality or their first (native) language, but candidates
  should have a high level of English proficiency in order to fulfill their teaching duties. They also should have a sufficient
  level of Japanese proficiency for some administrative tasks.

  (1) Curriculum Vitae.
  (2) List of publications. 
    (On the list, indicate your most significant publication with a ◎ mark.
    Indicate two other important publications with a ○ mark).
  (3) Single copies of the circled publications, printed on single-sided paper.
    (Provide a 1000 character summary in Japanese for each selection.)
  (4) A personal statement on your suitability for the position and your teaching and research aspirations
    (2000 characters in Japanese, or 1000 words in English)
  (5) Two syllabi in English: One for an introductory course in International Relations. 
     The other should be for an Upper Division class that you would like to teach.
     (Meiji Gakuin’s classes are ninety minutes in length; the Introduction to International Relations
    meets fifteen times a semester, while the Upper Division class meets thirty times a semester.)
  (6) Two letters of recommendation in either Japanese or English.

 Selection Process:
  The successful applicant will be selected based on a review of all the applications, interviews with a short list of candidates
  chosen from this review process, and demonstration lectures by the candidates that will be held at the time of the interview.
  The interviews will be held on November 4, 2017, at Meiji Gakuin University’s Shirokane Campus in Tokyo. The university
  will reimburse transportation costs to those candidates invited for an interview according to the university’s travel expense regulations.
