【Position and Rank】
 One full-time, tenured position with the rank of Professor, Associate Professor, or Lecturer.

【Starting Date】
 April 1st, 2021

【Duties and Teaching Responsibilities】
      The successful candidate will be asked to teach the lower-division course “Introduction to International Relations”
   in English, and an Upper Division course based on their field of specialization. In addition, the candidate will be asked
   to teach a few other lecture courses and seminars offered by the department, and possibly courses taught in Japanese
   in other departments.
        The GTS Department’s curriculum is conducted entirely in English. The department seeks a candidate who has
   the teaching skills and dedication to instruct students effectively in small class settings, including students whose
   secondary education was not centered on an English curriculum. The appointee should be a scholar who can teach
   theories of international relations to students while also providing them with a wealth of knowledge on various topics
   related to international society.

【Qualifications】
       The candidate must have a Ph.D. or have attained an equivalent record of achievement and ability.
         The position is open to any applicant, regardless of their nationality or first (native) language, but candidates
   should have a high level of English proficiency in order to fulfill their teaching duties. They should also have a
   sufficient level of Japanese proficiency for standard administrative tasks.

【Application Materials】
 (1) Curriculum Vitae.
   (2) List of publications. Indicate your most significant publication on the list with a ◎ mark by the title. 
        Indicate two other important publications with a 〇 mark). Include summaries for the three works indicated.
        For these works, provide a summary for each in either English (approx. 500 words) or in Japanese
        (approx. 1,000 characters). Applicants may be asked to submit copies of publications at a later stage of screening.
   (3) A personal statement on your suitability for the position and your teaching and research aspirations
        (1,000 words in English). Include an explanation of your proposed upper-division class.
   (4) Two syllabi in English: One for the “Introduction to International Relations” course, the other for an 
        Upper Division class that you would like to teach. Meiji Gakuin’s class periods are 90 minutes long. 
        The Introduction to International Relations course meets 15 times a semester, while the Upper Division
        course meets 30 times a semester.
   (5) Two letters of recommendation, in either English or Japanese.

【Application Deadline】

【Selection Process】
       The appointee will be selected based on a review of all the applications, interviews with a shortlist of
   candidates chosen from this review process, and demonstration lectures by shortlisted candidates at
   the time of the interview. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to supply publications.
       The interviews will be held on Saturday September 12 or 19, 2020, at Meiji Gakuin University’s Yokohama Campus.
         The university will reimburse transportation costs to those candidates invited to interview according
   to the university’s travel expense regulations. Depending on the situation with the Coronavirus pandemic,
   interviews may be held online.
