This is a Lower Division class. The selected candidate will also teach an Upper Division course in political science
(comparative politics/regional political studies, government studies, etc.). In addition, the candidate will be asked to
teach a few other lecture courses and seminars offered by the department. In the Upper Division course,
the successful candidate will lecture on the politics of the region in which they specialize, but scholars who can
lecture on the political systems of East Asia are particularly welcome to apply.
The GTS Department’s curriculum is conducted entirely in English. It seeks a candidate who has the teaching
skills and dedication to effectively instruct students in small class settings, including students whose secondary
education was not centered on an English curriculum.
【Qualifications】
The candidate must have a Ph.D. or have attained an equivalent record of achievement and ability.
The position is open to any applicant regardless of their nationality or their first (native) language,
but candidates should have a high level of English proficiency in order to fulfill their teaching duties.
They also should have a sufficient level of Japanese proficiency for some administrative tasks. Even if an
applicant cannot lecture in Japanese at the time of their application, the department is seeking a candidate who
will be able to teach in Japanese within five years of their appointment to the position.

other important publications with a 〇 mark).
(3) One copy each of your three most significant publications.
(These may be printed books or journal volumes for articles, article extracts, or photocopied versions of
these items. Include one summary for each submission: If it was published in English or languages other
than Japanese, provide a Japanese summary of approximately 1000 characters. If it was published in Japanese,
provide an English summary of approximately 500 words.)
(4) A personal statement on your suitability for the position and your teaching and research aspirations
(1000 words in English).
(5) Two syllabi in English: One for the “Introduction to Political Science” course. The other should be for an
Upper Division class that you would like to teach. Meiji Gakuin’s class periods are ninety minutes long.
The “Introduction to Political Science” meets 15 times a semester, while the Upper Division class meets
30 times a semester.
(6) Two letters of recommendation in either Japanese or English.

【Selection Process】
The successful applicant will be selected based on a review of all the applications, interviews with a short list
of candidates chosen from this review process, and demonstration lectures by those selected candidates
at the time of the interview.
The interviews will be held during the later part of September 2020 at Meiji Gakuin University’s Totsuka Campus
in Yokohama.
The university will reimburse transportation costs to those candidates invited for an interview according to the
university’s travel expense regulations.
