Tenured Position in Peace and Conflict Studies
The Department of International Studies, Faculty of International Studies, Meiji Gakuin University 

【Position and Rank】  
    One full-time (tenured) position with the rank of Professor, Associate Professor or Junior Associate Professor. 

【Starting Date】  
    April 1st, 2023

【Duties and Teaching Responsibilities】  
    The successful candidate will be asked to teach courses in Japanese, entitled “Peace and Conflict Studies,
 ” and “Peace Studies,” which focus on disarmament and peace. In addition to these, he/she
 will be in charge of seminar courses and field trips for domestic and international students.

【Compensation】  
    As per Meiji Gakuin University policies, in addition to the salary, the university provides a pension plan and
 allowances for specific needs and administrative duties.

【Qualifications】  
   (1) The candidate must have a Ph.D. or have attained an equivalent record of achievement and ability. 
 (2) The position is open to any applicant regardless of their nationality or their first (native) language,
  but candidates should have a sufficient level of Japanese proficiency for education and routine administrative tasks. 
 (3) The candidate must have a keen interest in the management of the Department and Faculty and be able to
  actively undertake those duties.

 (2) List of publications.* On the list, indicate your most significant publication with a ◎ mark by the title.
   Indicate two other important publications with a 〇 mark.
   (Accepted publications are also accepted as achievements if accompanied by certificates of acceptance.) 
 (3) Publications and summaries for the three works indicated. (Provide a summary in Japanese for each of
   your selected publications. Each summary should be between 1000 and 2000 characters long) 
 (4) A personal statement on your suitability for the position as well as your teaching and research aspirations
   (2000 characters in Japanese).
 (5) A syllabus for the “Peace and Conflict Studies” or “Peace Studies” course in Japanese.
   (Meiji Gakuin’s class periods are ninety minutes long and the class meets 30 times a semester.) 
 (6) Names and contact information of two academic referees who are familiar with your academic skills and abilities.

  Except for (3) all of the documents should be in the A4 paper format.

【Selection Process】
    All the applications will undergo a document screening process, after which selected candidates
 will be invited to an interview. They will be asked to provide a demonstration lecture in Japanese
 on “Peace and Conflict Studies”, too. Details of the interview and the demonstration lecture
 will be provided to the selected candidates in early September. The interviews and lectures are presently
 scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2022. 
 
 The interviews will be conducted on the Meiji Gakuin’s Yokohama Campus. Depending on the spread
 of the COVID-19, these interviews may be held online. In accordance with university regulations,
 the university will reimburse the candidates’ travel expenses.
