The Faculty of International Studies, Meiji Gakuin University invites application for one full-time position in the Faculty’s English language education programs.

Terms of Employment and Rank

The position is full-time, non-tenure-track position for a term of four years with the possibility of a single renewal for an additional four years based on a review process during the fourth year.  The successful applicant should be able to start working from April 1, 2015.  Depending on the experience and qualifications, the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Professor.

Employment Details

The appointee will teach in the Faculty of International Studies, located on the Yokohama Campus in Kanagawa.  The Faculty consists of two departments: Department of International Studies and the Department of Global and Transcultural Studies.  The appointment will be in the Department of International Studies. The primary duty of this position will be teaching English courses in both departments, supporting the part-time English instructors, and performing administrative duties involved in the operation of the English programs. Hence the appointee will teach first, second, and third year students and be available on all days when English classes are scheduled with the exception of one research day that can be spent away from the campus.
Additional duties including committee work may be assigned after consultation.

Qualifications

  1. Master of Arts degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics (Ph.D. Preferred).
  2. Native competence in English. Japanese language ability to carry out administrative duties including ability to read and respond to written communication is required.
  3. Experience teaching academic English including courses in composition and rhetoric to university students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  4. Experience supporting the administration of large English language programs in a university.
  5. Experience as program administrator of online and distance learning TOEFL, TOEIC, and other language programs in a university is highly desirable.

  2. Position Statement: The goal of teaching English to students in International Studies (600 words maximum).
  3. Two publications in journals related to language teaching such as JALT or JACET which demonstrate substantial knowledge and interest in language teaching and learning.
  4. List of referees—their names, position, and email contact details.
