First eight of the imperial poetry collections. The expression appears as early as Fujiwara no Teika's diary Megetsuki (entry for 1234.9.8).

(1) Kokinshû (Kokinwakashû), (2) Gosenshû, (3) Shûishû, (4) Goshûishu, (5) Kin'yoshû, (6) Shikashû, (7) Senzaishû, (8) Shinkokinshû.

Note the expression "Sandaishû" for first three collections and Nijûichidaishû for all twenty-one anthologies.
