The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies (GTS) offers several application methods.
You should select the format and test timeframe that allows you to best display your academic abilities and potential for intellectual development.

Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type A)

There are no restrictions on the applicant's country of origin, citizenship, or country of residence.
Applicants are selected in two stages.

  • Stage One (Document Screening)

We will evaluate and screen all the applications. Evaluation heavily weighs the applicant's level of academic preparation; the quality of their essay; and the strength of the recommendations.

  • Stage Two (Interview)

The applicants who pass the Stage One can move on to the Stage Two. Those who reside or stay in Japan have to come to Shirokane Campus and those who reside outside of Japan have to access online interview. We will conduct the interview in English.

Notes

The applicants may not simultaneously apply for the AO (Type B) examination.
There is no system for provisional enrollment.

Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type B)

There are no restrictions on the applicant’s country of origin or citizenship and there is no requirement that the applicants should be resident in Japan at the time of application.
The applicants must be able to take the examination in Tokyo on the day of the examination and the application procedures must be completed in Japan, either by applicants themselves, or by a person acting for them.
Applicants are selected in two stages.



  • Stage One (Document Screening)

The application contains Japanese forms. We will evaluate and screen all the applications.

  • Stage Two (Written Exam and Interview)

The applicants who pass the Stage One have the written exam and the interview on Meiji Gakuin University’s Shirokane Campus in November. The written exam and interview may be done in English, but the directions at the test-site are given in Japanese.
