The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies (GTS) offers several application methods.
Applicants are encouraged to select the admission format and examination timeframe that best demonstrate their academic abilities and potential for intellectual development.

• Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type A)
• Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type B)
• Type of the Entrance Examination: The General Entrance Exam (in Japanese)
• Type of the Entrance Examination: Transfer Student Admissions

Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type A)

There are no restrictions on the applicant's country of origin, citizenship, or country of residence.
Applicants are selected through a two-stage process.

• Stage One: Document Screening

All applications will be evaluated and screened. This evaluation heavily weighs the applicant's level of academic preparation, the quality of their essay, and the strength of their recommendations.

• Stage Two: Interview

Applicants who pass Stage One will proceed to Stage Two. Applicants residing or staying in Japan must attend in person at the Shirokane Campus, while those residing outside of Japan will take the interview online. The interview will be conducted entirely in English.

The entrance examinations for 2026 admission have concluded.

The Application Guidelines for 2027 admission are scheduled to be released around July 2026.

Notes

Applicants are not permitted to apply simultaneously for the AO (Type B) examination.
There is no system for provisional enrollment.

Type of the Entrance Examination: AO (Type B)

There are no restrictions on the applicant’s country of origin or citizenship, and there is no requirement for applicants to be residing in Japan at the time of application.
However, applicants must be able to take the examination in person in Tokyo on the designated examination date. Additionally, all application procedures must be completed within Japan, either by the applicants themselves, or by a proxy acting on their behalf.
Applicants are selected through a two-stage process.

• Stage One: Document Screening

The application forms must be completed in Japanese. All applicants will be evaluated and screened.

• Stage Two: Written Examination and Interview

Applicants who pass Stage One will take a written examination and an interview at Meiji Gakuin University’s Shirokane Campus in November. While the written examination and interview may be coducted in English, all instructions at the examination site will be given in Japanese.
