Major of Business Administration

(Doctoral Program)

Research specialized fields in a cutting-edge program that responds to the realities of the global economy

The Major of Business Administration offers a robust curriculum and research environment for students aspiring to become researchers. Our diverse curriculum and faculty cover all aspects of business administration, enabling us to nurture both researchers who will play a leading role in academic circles in Japan and overseas, and business leaders who will be at the forefront of their industries. The field of business administration is rapidly advancing, making it necessary to read extensively and explore the latest findings based on a knowledge of prior research. Our diverse curriculum enables students to approach their studies from a broad perspective, gaining a thorough grasp of the fundamentals of business administration, namely the general theory of management, marketing, accounting, financing and other related fields, while also grappling with current issues and developing a rich creativity and strong spirit of academic inquiry. Thanks to meticulous research guidance, this program has already produced graduates who are employed as university faculty members or are active in Japan's business world. Students in the doctoral degree program complete three years of studies under the guidance of their research mentor, including enrolling in their mentor's lecture and seminar classes (a total of eight credits), before submitting a doctoral dissertation. Students are required to pass the doctoral dissertation review and a final examination in order to attain a doctoral degree. The careful guidance that students receive in both carrying out research and writing their dissertation is a distinctive feature of the program. We welcome applicants with a strong desire to expand the frontiers of the field of business administration through academic and practical research.

Admission Policy

TOPICS

Small-group Classes

The Major of Business Administration in Meiji Gakuin University's Graduate School of Economics is specially designed for doctoral study. We aim to provide education and research opportunities that are based on small groups, and many classes are in a format that prioritizes discussion rather than in the unilateral lecture style. As a result, students develop closer relationships with faculty members and swiftly engage them in discussion if any questions arise, enabling a deeper understanding of the topic being studied.

Scholarships and Grants

To support student research, the Graduate School of Economics offers scholarships of either 100,000 or 200,000 yen to partially fund overseas research or presentations by enrolled students. Grants of up to 50,000 yen per person towards travel costs associated with attending academic conferences within Japan are also available.

Acceptance of Research Students

We accept research students seeking guidance from our professors on specific topics in business administration. International students wishing to study issues related to corporate management in this age of globalization may also be accepted as non-degree research students. Research students must be recognized as having academic ability equivalent or superior to that of students currently enrolled in the targeted program.
